YouTube - Inspiring Story! Free Hugs Campaign (music by sick puppies)

The music on this clip just doens't do it for me. Does it for you? Nah.

So, let's add a little unbridled goodness, maybe even some say *appropriate* lyrics and make it a little better.

DOWNLOAD: The Polyphonic Spree - 'Hold Me Now'

Then cue up The Spree in iTunes, press play on the YouTube cut and mute their music. Voila.

Added goodness.

YouTube - Inspiring Story! Free Hugs Campaign (music by sick puppies): "Sometimes, a hug is all what we need. Free hugs is a real life controversial story of Juan Mann, A man whos sole mission was to reach out and hug a stranger to brighten up their lives.

In this age of social disconnectivity and lack of human contact, the effects of the Free Hugs campaign became phenomenal.

As this symbol of human hope spread accross the city, police and officials ordered the Free Hugs campaign BANNED. What we then witness is the true spirit of humanity come together in what can only be described as awe inspiring.

In the Spirit of the free hugs campaign, PASS THIS TO A FRIEND and HUG A STRANGER! After all, If you can reach just one person.."

Feral naked pastry guy

Twasn't me.

Defamer, the L.A. Gossip Rag: " At 5am this morning, a 'drunken naked guy' used a sock full of rocks to shatter the glass on the front door, and stormed inside to eat 'all the pastries'. Police responded and found the guy running around the store, resisting arrest. He had feathers in his hair and an American flag... although it wasn't explained to me if this was a large or small flag, or where it was placed (or, perhaps, raised). The cops had to use rubber bullets and a beanbag shotgun to subdue him.

The origins of the feral 'Scone Boy,' as local lore has already dubbed him, remain a mystery. Perhaps we shall never know what led to the sad, desperate scenario in which he found himself cornered and snapping viciously at the encroaching fingers of law officials as he greedily fed on day-old pumpkin spice muffins, only to be knocked unconscious with a high-velocity beanbag to the side of his feather-adorned head. To end on a more upbeat note, however, the colorful event should provide plenty of creative inspiration to the franchise's core clientele of aspiring screenwriters and derelict producers, and it won't be long before multiple, scripted versions of the events start circulating around the gourmet coffee circuit, each offering their individualized, explosive take on the shocking true crime tale."

Panda bites man, man bites him back - Yahoo! News

Attempting to blog more, even though work is getting a little busy these days.

Favorite quote is from Zhang, towards the bottom, although I like thaat the zoo official wasn't clear on whether it was the panda or the panda biter that they might not punish: Panda bites man, man bites him back - Yahoo! News: "A drunken Chinese migrant worker jumped into a panda enclosure at the Beijing Zoo, was bitten by the bear and retaliated by chomping down on the animal's back, state media said Wednesday.

Zhang Xinyan, from the central province of Henan, drank four jugs of beer at a restaurant near the zoo before visiting Gu Gu the panda on Tuesday, the Beijing Morning Post said.

'He felt a sudden urge to touch the panda with his hand,' and jumped into the enclosure, the newspaper said.

The panda, who was asleep, was startled and bit Zhang, 35, on the right leg, it said. Zhang got angry and kicked the panda, who then bit his other leg. A tussle ensued, the paper said.

....

The Beijing Youth Daily quoted Zhang as saying that he had seen pandas on television and "they seemed to get along well with people."

"No one ever said they would bite people," Zhang said. "I just wanted to touch it. I was so dizzy from the beer. I don't remember much."

Ye Mingxia, a spokeswoman for the Beijing Zoo, confirmed the incident happened but would not give any details. She said Gu Gu was "healthy."

"We're not considering punishing him now," Ye said in a telephone interview. "He's suffered quite a bit of shock."

SFGate: Culture Blog! : Long Live the Burn

gah!

The Belgian waffle looked awesome.

The description of the Temple burn is perfect.

I'm thinking that if I go next year and am feeling better about the whole adoption thing, that I might try to do some kind of art project focused on that.

Maybe DMC and Sarah McLachlan can help.

The so-called Belgian Waffle slowly caught fire after performances that made Sunday night feel like the Closing Ceremonies of Burning Man 2006
The Man is gone, and soon there will be no trace of Black Rock City, either. Thousands of volunteers are combing every inch of the desert floor for signs of MOOP (matter out of place). Burning Man 2006 is history, and the business at hand is to make it seem like it never took place at all. The key is to leave no trace -- no one must ever be able to tell that there were almost 40,000 people celebrating life, art and sex, among other things, in the Nevada desert over the Labor Day weekend.

The Man burned on Saturday night in an explosion of fireworks and a sea of fire dancers. There was chanting and drumming and seemingly hundreds of art cars joining tens of thousands of Burners saying goodbye to the Man. Long live the Man.

The next day, Sunday, saw thousands of Burners beginning to make their exodus from the playa. Cars streamed out by the thousands all day long, kicking up massive amounts of dust that pummeled the playa and the people staying behind.

By evening time, it seemed that around two-thirds of the people at the Burn had decided to stick around for the burning of the Temple, one of the most emotional times of the week. That is the tradition at Burning Man; you stay around for the extra day and bring the week of bacchanalia to a somber close by remembering the ones you loved who have passed on.

The Temple was covered with pictures and writings that remembered the dead

john curley

The Temple was covered with pictures and writings that remembered the dead
And so at sunset you wandered out to the Temple to take a last look at the inscriptions and letters and pictures and drawings left there to honor the dead. It was an overwhelming experience. Of the hundreds of people who were hunched over, writing on pieces of wood to add to the pile, or quietly reading what had already been written, there wasn't anyone who wasn't crying, or looking like they were about to. A couple of hours later, flames would engulf the somewhat modest Temple, but there was nothing modest about the rawness of the emotions on this cloudy evening. "

LA Times article on The Spree

have to admit i've got a bit of trepidation when i comes to the new Spree's 'more political, more rock album'.

i fear change. 8)

love the last quote. i've got difficulty with taking care of myself...

calendarlive.com: FAST TRACKS - Another Spree begins: "Now, the Spree returns with 'Wait,' a five song EP that includes covers of the Psychedelic Furs' '80s chestnut 'Love My Way' and an ecstatic-sounding cover of Nirvana's 'Lithium' produced by Jon Brion (who is behind hits for Fiona Apple and Kanye West).

And all two-dozen members will pull in to the scene of the group's earlier breakdown, the Fonda, on Sept. 10 — part of a two-week U.S. tour — with a new perspective.

'Things most definitely have changed,' DeLaughter says. 'It's evolved into this community property. Before, it was more about my personal space. Now it's more about a community of ideas.'

He also seizes the opportunity to correct a common misperception about the Polyphonic Spree: 'A lot has been misconstrued about us: that we have this happy, clappy situation where everyone is in a constant state of zeal,' DeLaughter says. 'Not true. There are major dynamics in a five-piece band. Can you imagine the issues when you have five of those bands as one?'

...

As if mounting a tour and releasing new music weren't enough, the Spree has remained busy for the last year recording a highly politicized, more "rock-oriented" album, "The Fragile Army," which it will release next spring. Also, DeLaughter and his wife and bandmate Julie Doyle are expecting their fourth child in December.

"We're used to overwhelming ourselves," DeLaughter says in his lazy, Texan drawl. "Hence, the four kids, label, record store and 24-piece band.""
